One last push

The war is over, finally over.
No more fighting, no more killing,
no more slaughter, no more murder,
no more bombs, no more guns,
no more wire, no more trenches
no more rats, no more gas,
no more notices home, and no more tears.

..............for Russians
They've packed up, moved out, and gone home.
The treaty has been signed, the war ended.
So while the Russians go home, we're stuck here.
Stuck with the fighting and the killing,
stuck with being away from home,
stuck with fighting someone else's war.

There have been rumors, rumors of another force,
rumors of an army that could turn the tide.

The war is not over yet, but it will be soon.
And as we prepare for one last push, one last attempt,
One last leap, one last charge,
Eastern-front soldiers join us.
(They don't get to go home either.)

For this last battle will determine everything.
A battle that must be won....

before the Americans come
Another WWI poem. This takes place right after the Russians pulled out of the war to deal with their own problems, but before the Americans arrived in the fight.

One German soldier knows it'll be all over soon, but how will it end?

you like ending poems dramatically with italics, don't you?
